JHANG: At least 11 people were killed in a collision between a passenger bus and a truck here on Saturday, police and rescue sources said.
The accident took place when a speeding bus collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction on Khushab Road near Nasirabad, Jhang. The bus was travelling from Karachi to Khushab. At least 19 people were also injured in the incident.
The dead and injured were shifted to a nearby hospital. Five of the injured were said to be in a critical condition. Earlier last month, 19 people including two children were killed in a collision between a passenger bus and a truck near Faisalabad.
Poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving are cited as common reasons behind accidents in Pakistan. More than 4,600 people were killed in road traffic accidents in 2013, which is the last year the government released official data on the matter.
