KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah issued a stern statement on Wednesday saying that those within the government who did not wish to work could leave.
He visited Karachi’s Lyari area on Wednesday to take the stock of the locality’s situation when citizens protested over lack of water and hygiene. On the occasion, the Sindh chief minister said that those who would demonstrate good work would be given a pat on the back whereas others who did not want to work had the option to leave.
Speaking on the lack of cleanliness in the city, Murad said, “The dirt and garbage from the city cannot be cleaned within a few days.” He added, “The problem of lack of cleanliness in Karachi existed before I became the chief minister.”
Regarding the conditions of schools, he said that there were not only ghost schools and ghost employees, but also ghost students. “We want to eliminate these ghosts,” he said. He urged the NGOs to work with the government schools and said that a partnership program was there through which that could happen.
He had assailed the authorities in Sindh on Monday over their failure to maintain cleanliness in the metropolis after rainfall exposed the dilapidated conditions of the city’s roads and the poor drainage system.
